The diversity across tumours from different patients and even across cancer cells from the same patient tremendously complicates the development of treatments. ‘Personalized’ or ‘precision’ medicine aims to overcome this problem by finding a tailored treatment regimen for each patient according to the individual genetic background and tumour molecular profile. This ambitious goal requires proper molecular characterization of patient cancer using high-throughput technologies and advanced imaging technologies. Although cancer multi-scale data are becoming available, these still need to be fully exploited to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and thereby inform patient stratification and treatment. 

The course is dedicated to the most current knowledge linking developmental biology with the cellular and molecular study of cancers. Neural crest and melanomas, from their initiation to their migration (metastasis) as well as pediatric cancer from embryonic origins such as medulloblastomas and neuroblastomas are taken as examples. 

The course benefits from a multidisciplinary approach at multiple scales (embryology on various models, biophysics, cell biology, transcriptomics, imaging ...). It also breaches therapeutic approaches and focuses on 3R with the invitation of researchers developing organoids and alternative animal models.

A hands-on session introducing the essentials of project management terms and tools that are easily transferable to a research project.

When starting a PhD or leading a first postdoctoral research project, it is important to consider every aspect of the project, from the start till the defence or publication. Conducting research has a lot in common with managing an R&D project. This workshop equips early-career researchers with the basic vocabulary and practical tools required to view their work from a project manager's perspective. Starting from the definition of objectives in light of the resources available, to time management and planning the work, including milestones and deliverables. The interactive format allows participants to experiment with different tools in practice and learn by the group experience.

This intensive course combines theoretical and practical training to explore the fundamental concepts, challenges, and technologies of modern developmental biology. The program covers topics ranging from the regulation of gene expression and cellular interactions to the formation of a structured multicellular embryo. Participants are introduced to a variety of embryonic models, including genetic model organisms such as Drosophila, C. elegans, mouse, and zebrafish, as well as classical experimental embryology models including Xenopus and chicken. These models are studied using state-of-the-art methodologies and technologies.

The phase of actually writing the PhD thesis is one that many doctoral candidates fear for a variety of reasons: inadequate knowledge of the explicit and implicit rules, apprehensions about the very act of writing, the implications of giving formal shape to the research work, etc. This workshop aims to demystify the process by examining the expectations of the academic system and identifying the most effective methods for each PhD candidate.

In this workshop you will learn the principles, theory and practice of successful scientific communication, and how artificial intelligence can help. The workshop includes editing/commenting of participants' written work (title and abstract), and insights into the workings of journal editorial.

The 8th Cell Biology and Cancer course will explore how biological forms emerge across scales, from intracellular organization to tissues and whole organisms. It will focus on key cellular processes such as cytoskeleton dynamics and intracellular trafficking, and how these processes shape complex cellular structures. The course will also address pattern formation, morphogenesis and collective cell behaviors at the tissue level, in the context of mechanobiology and developmental biology.

The “Software Protection and Valorization” training course, offered to all Institut Curie staff, aims to strengthen the skills needed to effectively manage software developed as part of research and innovation activities.

It will enable you to:

• Understand the fundamental concepts related to software as protected intellectual property,
• Identify the various commercialization options (proprietary or open-source licenses, open-source models),
• Collaborate effectively with the Technology Transfer Office (DVPI) to optimize the use and dissemination of software resulting from research.

Upon completion of this training, you will have practical guidelines for securing and commercializing your software developments, thereby contributing to the Institut Curie’s mission of technology transfer and innovation.

This 3-hour training session will cover aspects such as: our role as scientists in the society, how to define scientific integrity and responsible conduct of research and what it means in a day to day life in the lab.

Most of the session will be devoted to the study of cases where tensions related to scientific integrity are at stake.

All new arrivals to Institut Curie's Research Center who have completed their Master's studies (M2) or higher are strongly encouraged to attend Scientific Integrity Training, however the session is open to all Institut Curie's personnel.
