Patient involvement in cancer research

Patients as Partners in Research: Exploring Their Experiences and Perspectives

Today, patients are increasingly involved in health research as active partners. This approach is part of a broader movement to better understand patients’ experiences and to integrate their perspectives in order to enhance the relevance and quality of research projects.

In the context of growing skepticism toward science and declining trust in institutions, patient involvement constitutes an important lever for promoting meaningful dialogue between science and society.

Furthermore, an increasing number of research funding organizations now encourage, and in some cases require, the involvement of patients throughout the research process.

This training programme aims to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to understand the role of patients in research and how their experiential knowledge can contribute to basic, translational, and clinical research.

Through a combination of theoretical input, practical workshops, and experience sharing, you will explore opportunities for patient involvement in your research and reflect on the conditions necessary for meaningful and mutually beneficial collaboration.

In this first module, you will explore patients’ lived experiences, care pathways and the experiential knowledge they develop throughout their journey. You will also be invited to discuss your own perspectives on research and reflect on the impact of research on patients.

All 8 sessions of this course are taught in French. To fully follow the course, participants are required to have a B2 level in both listening comprehension and oral expression.
