Films Your Science 2026

Designing, Communicating and Producing a Scientific Video

This course supports PhD students in designing, scripting, filming and editing a short scientific outreach video presenting their research. The programme combines independent work, an in-person workshop and individual online mentoring to help each participant produce a completed science communication video for the final screening.

Objectives

• Learn how to communicate complex scientific topics to a general audience.

• Build an engaging scientific narrative.

• Write a science video script.

• Acquire basic filming and editing skills.

• Develop oral and audiovisual science communication skills.

• Produce a completed video presenting one's research project.

Discussion & Workshops

Interactive workshops, group discussions, individual mentoring, project presentations, script-writing exercises, scenario review, filming and editing guidance.

Personal Work

Participants are expected to:

- complete the preparatory questionnaire;

- write a script;

- film their project;

- edit several versions of their video;

- revise their work following individual feedback.

Certificate of attendance

Exam & Evaluation

Continuous assessment based on participation, intermediate deliverables (script and edited versions) and submission of the final video.

Selection Criteria

  1. PhD students conducting their doctoral research in Institut Curie laboratories.
  2. Completion of the preparatory questionnaire
  3. Priority will be given to PhD students whose research is related to the Women's Cancer Institute.

Selected participants must demonstrate a genuine interest in the project and in filmmaking. They must have sufficient time to commit to the entire process (preparation, filming, and follow-up) and be available, in person, on September 4 and November 3 at a minimum.

In addition, priority will be given to third-year doctoral students, followed by second-year doctoral students, and then first-year doctoral students, with automatic enrollment for next year, if requested.
