Objectives
The objective of the course is to expose PhD and Master students coming from European laboratories to cutting edge concepts in the field of cell biology
Discussion & Workshops
We will organize two workshops:
Balancing Professional and Personal Time
On Wednesday evening, we will organize a “Science and Life” dinner where international speakers will join students to talk about their life in science, their achievements, and their failures, as well as the good and bad moments in their careers. We would like to hear about their inspirations, satisfaction, and motivations, but also about the challenges and difficulties in our jobs and how these reflect on personal life.
Careers Outside Academia
To expose students to different career paths after a PhD, we will organize a workshop with three speakers currently working in non-academic settings, such as biotech and translational research departments, scientific journal editing, consulting, teaching, and administrative roles for charities. Each guest will present their career path in about 15-20 minutes. Afterward, students will have the opportunity to ask questions during a general discussion, followed by small group discussions for more specific questions
Selection Criteria
This course is for European Master’s and PhD students, selected based on their interest in cell biology. However, all lectures will be open to all researchers at the Institut Curie and in the Paris area.
Candidates will be selected based on the abstract describing their current work and a 3 sentences-long motivation statement explaining why they want to participate to this course
